Nine out of 10 days I'm so glad that it's her that I took home from the hospital that early morning three short months ago. She is an absolute joy, and brings such fullness to my Life. My heart is always on the verge of bursting; she has discovered places in my heart that even I didn't know existed. Plus she's becoming entertaining, whereas I'm sort of boring. She laughs and smiles and coos and farts and bounces and stands on her two feet. Most of the soothing techniques we've even retired, including the blue bouncy ball, the sound of the bathtub jets, the blue dimming lights above the bathroom vanity, the waltz. If she does need soothing, we just blast the Krishna Das CD on the speakers and she immediately zones out. Maybe she's the Buddha reincarnated. Bob likes to think that's our sign to pack our bags and head to India. Anyway, we are finding routine in our daily togetherness, especially in the evenings. We dim the house lights around 9'ish, turn softer music on for her, take a bath together (yep, all three of us!), and then into her pajamas and onto the "nursee" (the nipple) between 9:30 and 10PM, and together we fall asleep (I usually read for a half hour or so). On these days I feel so incredibily blessed and in awe of what Bob and I have created together.
But on other days (one of 10), I wish I could get take her back to where she came from. And I don't want store credit, or an exchange; rather I want a full cash refund. This happened last Friday. Since the hospital would only grant me store credit, I asked Bob if he would throw her on the back burner with those other non-organic chicken thighs he was frying. He decided it better that I finish the frying so that he could take Sequoia (he always thinks he has all the answers. Humph.).
Bob bought her a wooden skwish ball on Saturday. He said that it was the one toy in the store that she grabbed hold of. She unintentionally grasps the thin stretchy rope that strings the wooden balls together, and then she puts one of the balls in her mouth and chews. Bob says she likes it because she has nine nipples to choose from; I think that's why he would like it if he were baby again.
We put away her 0-3 month clothes. And now she's in 3-6 month clothes. I guess that's a milestone.
Here's a picture taken yesterday of me and her. She just cracks me up!

wow, look at her smile!! i love it!! she's such a good mixture of you and Bob but i can't figure out what looks like you. Is it her sillyness?? If you ever get the urge to return her to the hospital, please call Aunty J! I can't do the breast thing but that's o:k, we'll find ways to cope! LOL
ReplyDeleteOh My Gosh, Seriously Adorable. And Nani, the first paragraph, yes I could attest to you being boring. So I was so happy to read the next paragraph about cashing her in. haha. Glad you haven't lost your sense of humor, and allow yourself to have those other-than-blissful moments. All part and parcel. That said, so glad everything is going well. She is seriously too adorable. And I think you are right, the Buddha reincarnated. I always thought he should come as Female next, and also that he would hide here in a new form, since they say that was his last reincarnation. I don't think so. Hopefully all the babies of our new age will be Him.
ReplyDeleteP.S. If you go to India, can I come? :) Listening to Krishna Das right along with you S.
